A Message from the Chief of Police

Deputy Chief Bruce Herridge, Chief Armand La Barge and Deputy Chief Eric JolliffeOn behalf of all the men and women of York Regional Police, Deputy Chief Bruce Herridge (pictured left) and Deputy Chief Eric Jolliffe (pictured right), welcome to our newly-designed website. I hope you find it interesting, informative and easy to navigate.

One of the many new elements at www.yrp.ca, our Online Services section, is a first-rate, multilingual online reporting capability where residents can file reports online for such incidents as:

  • Damage to Vehicle
  • Theft under $10,000
  • Theft from Vehicle
  • Mischief or Damage to Property

Visitors can register their bikes in our new online Bike Registration Program, file a Road Watch report about an aggressive or speeding driver and participate on the monthly online survey on topics featured during the Police Services Board Public Interest Agenda presentations.

Visitors are also reminded that valuable crime prevention information in our programs and initiatives are featured on the new site. Residents can surrender an unwanted firearm or register for a home or business security inspection under the Safe and Secure Gun Program. They can register for regular police patrols in our Cottage Watch program, or receive information on how to protect elderly and vulnerable people under Project Lifesaver.

Short, educational videos and valuable information for parents is available, including our Be Net Aware program on Internet safety, the It’s Not Just a Game program urging parents to learn about the rating system for violent video games and the Safe Roads…Your Call program fighting impaired driving.

Safety tips for residents, business owners and seniors are also included as well as information on the variety of community-based programs offered by the officers in our Community Services Bureau.

Crime news is also more easily accessible on our new site. The Most Wanted and Caught in Act feature provides information, suspect descriptions and images taken from video surveillance to assist us in identifying and apprehending wanted persons.

Media releases, helicopter reports and contact information for our Media Relations Officers are available on the front page along with information on how to get involved with York Regional Police as a volunteer or register for the Citizens Academy course for residents.

The Coming Events Calendar will keep you up-to-date on the events we are hosting or attending in the community and issues of the day appear right on our front page.

In addition to this information, our website is a valuable tool for people who are interested in pursuing a rewarding career in policing. Details on the process are included and our Recruiting staff will be glad to assist you with any inquiries that you have.
