Deeds Speak

The Air Support Unit consists of three full time members along with four alternate personnel, thereby making Air2 available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

About the Air Support Unit

As Air2 actively flies "patrol support", it is tasked with multiple mission roles. Air2 actively supports officers on the ground with criminal apprehension, vehicle pursuits, searches for lost persons, traffic enforcement and a host of other special endeavours, and its role continues to grow.

The Air Support Unit has been instrumental in the quick apprehension of wanted parties, such as the case involving the abduction and sexual assault of the young victim in a Richmond Hill. In early May of 2004, Air2 was responsible for the timely location of an 89-year-old woman suffering from the late stages of Alzheimer's, who had wandered away from the complex and settled in a field. Air2 is also very active in traffic management, through coordinated checkpoints with ground traffic enforcement units. The helicopter is able to monitor speeding vehicles, or other unsafe drivers. As well, Air2 assists with other targeted projects in coordination with other area police forces such as project ERASE, aimed at eradicating street racing.
