Deputy Chief André Crawford began his career with York Regional Police in 1986. Nearly three decades later, he was appointed as deputy chief of administration in 2013.

During his career, his assignments have included Uniform Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Intelligence, Sexual Assault, Crimes Against Children, Homicide, Training and Education and Community Services. Deputy Chief Crawford has a bachelor of arts degree in fine arts from the University of Waterloo. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto Rotman School of Management Police Leadership program and the Senior Management Institute for Police in Boston.

Aside from his role at the helm of the administrative branch, he serves as treasurer on the Aurora Film Circuit Steering Committee and is a member of various committees including the Board of Directors for the Character Community Foundation of York Region. 

Deputy Chief Crawford is the recipient of the Police Exemplary Service Medal, a Chief of Police Award, a Human Rights and Race Relations Centre Gold Medal Award and in 2015, he received the Black Business and Professional Association Harry Jerome Social Engagement Award. 

Deputy Crawford lives in Aurora with his wife.
