An officer using the Project Lifesaver device

In order to be eligible for the York Regional Police Project Lifesaver Program the following criteria must be met:

  • The participant must be monitored by a caregiver 24 hours a day, seven days per week
  • The participant must reside in York Region
  • The participant is not involved in unescorted activities such as walks, shopping or medical appointments that would create increased opportunities for wandering
  • The participant must be diagnosed by a qualified medical professional as having Alzheimer's, dementia, autism or any other medical issue that may cause the participant to wander and place them at risk. A doctor's note is required
  • The participant must not operate a motor vehicle
