Wanted: Sethuraj (Babji) Mokada
In August of 2008, the Corporate Security department of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) became aware of a fraud being committed by one of their Financial Services Representatives (FSR) at a branch located in Newmarket.
The suspect, Sethuraj (Babji) MOKADA, held a position that included the servicing of customer accounts and customer assistance in the purchase and management of various CIBC products. After becoming aware of the problem a subsequent audit of the suspect’s activities was conducted and it revealed that during the period of August 2007 through to June 2008 the suspect had committed fraud by removing funds from customer accounts.
In some cases, funds were withdrawn at the request of a client and used to purchase various bank products but the purchases were never completed. In other cases, funds were simply withdrawn without authorization of a client and it is believed the suspect has forwarded a portion of these funds abroad, for his personal use. Investigators believe that the total fraud value in this case is in excess of $1.9 million.
A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for his arrest and Mr. MOKADA is urged to seek legal advice and make arrangements to surrender to police.
The whereabouts of the suspect are unknown but investigators believe that he is still in Canada.
