Regional Municipality of York Police Services Board
The Regional Municipality of York Police Services Board is a seven member civilian Board that oversees the York Regional Police. Four Board members are appointed by Regional Council and three by the Province of Ontario.
Under Ontario's Police Services Act, the Board has a duty to ensure that effective and efficient police services, including crime prevention, are provided to over 1,020,191 people in the growing and diverse Regional Municipality of York.
The Region is divided into five Police Districts, each with its own Headquarters. The five District Headquarters are located in the Towns of Georgina, Markham, Newmarket, Richmond Hill and the City of Vaughan. Other support units are based in the Town of Aurora.
As civilian members who represent the public's interests, the Police Services Board is committed to a high quality of community-based policing and excellence in police governance. The Board recognizes the challenges to law enforcement created by a changing environment, demographic shifts, emerging technologies and evolving crime trends and patterns. With the support of the citizens in York Region, the Police Services Board is confident of meeting future policing challenges in the years ahead.
