Recent Auto Cargo Thefts
BAKING SUPPLIES STOLEN
The York Regional Police Auto Cargo Theft Unit is seeking public assistance in identifying and apprehending the suspects responsible for a large cargo theft that occurred in the Town of Richmond Hill.
On the morning of the 5th of June, 2009 employees of Far East Food Products Limited, which is a bakery ingredients distribution centre, arrived at work to find two vehicles had been stolen.
The trucks are described as a 24’ white International straight truck and a 48’ white trailer with an International tractor. The vehicles have the company name “Far East Products Limited” logo and phone number on the sides. These vehicles were both recovered in the Brimley and Ellesmere Road area of Scarborough.
The trucks were loaded with approximately $50,000.00 worth of bakery ingredients such as flour, rolled oats, baking powder, corn starch, buttermilk, sponge cake, icing sugar, etc.
No suspect descriptions are available.

$1.5 MILLION IN PRINT CARTRIDGES STOLEN
The York Regional Police Auto/Cargo Theft Unit is seeking public assistance in identifying and apprehending the suspects responsible for a large cargo theft that occurred in the Town of Richmond Hill.
On Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at approximately 4:50 a.m., an employee arrived for work at Lexmark Canada located at 50 Leek Crescent and noticed a hole in the loading door and a forklift parked near the hole. He checked the warehouse for any missing property and discovered that a large number of skids of print cartridges were missing. The total value of the theft, including a truck and the stolen container used to transport the property, is approximately $1.5 million.
On Thursday, January 8, 2009, investigators from the Auto/Cargo Theft Unit were contacted when the stolen truck and empty container were located in the City of Vaughan.
No suspect descriptions are available.
There are several ways that business owners involved in the shipping and warehousing of product can protect themselves and they are reminded of the following crime prevention tips:
- Ensure all keys for all business vehicles including tractor trailers are locked and not easy for thieves to locate
- Protect warehouse premises with alarms and codes and change the codes frequently
- Design warehouse and storage areas to reduce the potential for theft by utilizing lighting and security when possible
- Do not make valuable load information available to others
- Report any suspicious vehicles or people to police. We will respond to these calls
- Do not leave loaded trailers unsecured
