Venturer Scouts Company
The York Regional Police Venturer Scouts Company was founded in 1995. The Scouts Canada Police Venturer Scouts program was built around the following fundamental beliefs:
- Participation in scouting activities
- Participation in community work
- Participation in social functions
- Participation in exploring the various aspect related to a career in Policing
The York Regional Police Service, with the assistance of Scouts Canada has become "A place where Venturer Scouts can develop friendships and an awareness of 'self' through company activities."
Rover Scouts Crew
The York Regional Police Rover Scouts Crew was established to offer community oreinted volunteer suppor to the York Regional Police Services and Scouts Canada. The members of the Crew can hope to attain a first-hand insight into policing and valuable experince in the police community. Members will also develop a sense of community, leadership, and confidence in themselves that will help them attain their career and personal goals.
Why Become a York Regional Police Scout?
It is a unique opportunity to experience up close the various aspects of policing while participating in activities that give back to the community.
To become a YRP Scout, youth must be:
- Must be 14-18 years of age (Venturer Scouts) or 18-26 (Rover Scouts)
- A full-time student or employed full-time
- Submit an Application for Membership for program participants, and a Volunteer Screening Request
- Abide by the mission, principles and practices of Scouts and the bylaws, policies and procedures of the York Regional Police Scouts
- Shall make the Venturer Scouts or Rover Scouts promise to the company at the Investiture Ceremony
- No criminal or Young Person record
Community Service
The Scouts participate in numerous community functions which include:
- Assisting at Scouting events
- Police Memorial Ceremony in Ottawa
- Holiday Heroes Program
- Police Male Chorus Fundraiser
- Pipes and Drums Parades
- Walk for Juvenile Diabetes
- Serving Christmas Dinner for Charity Organizations
- International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
Vocational Activities
Guest speakers provide the Scouts with insight into various units within the York Regional Police Service. Lectures are provided to the youth about the following units:
- Forensic Identification / CSI
- Emergency Response Unit
- Marine / Underwater Recovery
- Air Support
- Drugs and Vice
- Canine
- Training Branch
- Search & Rescue
