CHARGES LAID AFTER DEATH CAUSED BY ILLEGAL COSMETIC PROCEDURES

Posted on Thursday June 07, 2018

York Regional Police has laid charges against a 40-year-old woman from the City of Vaughan after a lengthy investigation into a death resulting from illegal cosmetic non-surgical procedures.

On Wednesday, April 18, 2017, York Regional Police began an investigation after responding to a call at a hospital regarding a woman in life-threatening condition after she received cosmetic non-surgical procedures inside a private home in the City of Vaughan. The victim, who was 23 years old, succumbed to her injuries in hospital.

During the investigation officers learned that the accused was a registered nurse who was formally employed but for the past several years had been working independently out of her residence. The accused set up an unregulated medical office in her home and was offering discounted cosmetic non-surgical procedures to clients through word of mouth. Officers determined that the procedures involved injections of unregulated substances into the body that are not intended for that purpose.

During the investigation, officers located additional victims who had also received treatments from the accused and suffered various health related issues. On Monday, June 4, 2018, the accused was arrested and charged. The College of Nurses has been notified of this investigation.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have received treatments from the accused, or anyone with information on these incidents, to please come forward.
