Update - One Suspect Arrested in Vaughan Homicide

Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit would like to thank the media, the public and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) for their assistance in locating a suspect wanted in connection with a homicide in the City of Vaughan.

On Monday, January 26, 2026, at approximately 1 p.m., officers were called to a commercial plaza in the area of Winges Road and Rowntree Dairy roads after receiving reports of shots fired. When officers arrived, a male was located in front of a business with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

On March 5, 2026, as a result of the ongoing collaborative investigation, members of the OPP James Bay Detachment located and arrested Jacob WALLACE in the Town of Moosonee.

First-Degree Murder
Arson Causing Damage to Property

A Canada-Wide warrant remain for 19-year-old Isaiah Thomas BADGER, of the City of Edmonton, Alberta.

BADGER is considered armed and dangerous. If seen, citizens are urged not to approach, but to call police immediately.

Update - Additional Suspect Identified in Project Chatter

Officers with the York Regional Police Guns, Gangs and Drug Enforcement Unit (GGDEU) are seeking the public’s assistance in locating an additional suspect identified in Project Chatter, an investigation into the trafficking of fentanyl and firearms within York Region and elsewhere in the Greater Toronto Area.

These efforts resulted in the arrest of 23 individuals, the recovery of 32 illegal firearms and a large quantity of drugs, including over 700,000 doses of fentanyl with a street value of more than $7 million.

GGDEU investigators are now seeking the public’s assistance in locating a suspect wanted for trafficking a substantial amount of fentanyl.

Christopher MORGAN, 27, of the City of Toronto, is wanted for Trafficking of a Controlled Substance. Police have been unable to locate him and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. Investigators are releasing his image and appealing to the public for information on his whereabouts. MORGAN is known to have ties to the Cities of Vaughan and Toronto.

The accused is encouraged to seek legal advice and turn himself in. Investigators are reminding the public that anyone providing assistance to him may be subject to criminal charges.

Warrant Issued for Sex Offender of a Minor

Investigators with the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit, Human Trafficking Section are seeking public assistance in locating a 27-year-old man wanted soliciting sex with a minor.

On Wednesday, June 14, 2023, the suspect had attended an address in the area of Don Mills Road and Parkway Forest Drive, in the City of Toronto, and engaged in sexual activity with the victim, who was under the age of 18 years. He was also charged with failing to comply with a previous release order.

The suspect was placed on a GPS ankle monitor device.

On Friday, May 23, 2025, the suspect was found guilty of Obtaining Sexual Services for Consideration Under 18 and Fail to Comply with a Judicial Release Order.

On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, while awaiting sentencing, the suspect cut off his ankle monitor device.

On Thursday, August 14, 2025 and sentenced in absentia to five years in prison.

Chengyuan Chad LI, 27, of the City of Markham, is now wanted. Police have been unable to locate him and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. Investigators are releasing his image and are appealing to the public for information on his whereabouts.

YORK REGIONAL POLICE PARTNER WITH BOLO PROGRAM IN CONNECTION WITH 2024 HOMICIDE

York Regional Police has partnered with the Bolo (Be on the lookout) Program to help locate a suspect wanted on a Canada-wide warrant in connection with the murder of a 16-year-old Quebec boy that occurred in York Region.

Through the partnership with Bolo, York Regional Police is seeking information that leads to the arrest Katherine BERGERON-PINZARRONE, 27, of Mississauga, who is wanted for one count of Second-Degree Murder. She is known to reside in Mississauga and Quebec.

On Thursday, August 8, 2024, at approximately 6 a.m., police were called to a local hospital after a victim arrived suffering from a stab wound. The victim was pronounced deceased a short time later. He is now identified as a 16-year-old male youth from the City of Montreal.

A Canada-wide arrest warrant remains in effect for BERGERON-PINZARRONE. If seen, do not approach her, instead call 9-1-1 immediately. The suspect is encouraged to seek legal counsel and turn herself in. Investigators are reminding the public that anyone who is, or has, assisted the suspect may be subject to criminal charges.

UPDATE: CANADA-WIDE WARRANT ISSUED IN CONNECTION WITH THE MURDER OF YUK-YING ANITA MUI

Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit have issued a Canada-wide warrant for 47-year-old Zhixiong Marko HU, wanted for First Degree Murder in connection with the disappearance and death of Yuk-Ying Anita MUI.

On Friday, August 9, 2024, MUI was reported missing by family after they had not heard from her since 11 a.m. Later that day, her white 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE450 sport utility vehicle (SUV) was located in the area of Finch Avenue East and Warden Avenue, in the City of Toronto.

On August 12, 2024, Ontario Provincial Police officers reported that burned human remains were located in the area of Avro Arrow Road and Highway 400, in the Town of Parry Sound. On August 21, 2024, the Office of the Chief Coroner positively identified the deceased as MUI.

Through investigation, it was learned that suspects were in possession of property belonging to MUI. As a result, three youths were charged with firearms and fraud-related offences. A fourth suspect has since been identified as being involved in her disappearance.

On August 27, 2024, a Canada-wide warrant for First Degree Murder was issued for 47-year-old ZhixiongMarko HU, from the City of Markham.

Investigators have seized two vehicles associated to HU, a white 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van with Ontario licence plate CWHW720 and a grey 2021 Porsche Cayenne SUV with Ontario licence plate CTZT172. Investigators also believe this Porsche may have had a different licence plate attached to it on August 9, 2024, or in the days leading up to that date. They are asking anyone who may information or may have seen these vehicles to please contact them.

YORK REGIONAL POLICE PARTNER WITH BOLO PROGRAM IN CONNECTION WITH 2021 DOUBLE HOMICIDE

York Regional Police has partnered with the BOLO Program to help locate a suspect wanted on a Canada-wide warrant in connection with the murders of a Markham couple that occurred in the City of Vaughan in 2021.

Through the partnership with BOLO, a $50,000 reward has been offered for information that leads to the arrest Phuong Tan NGUYEN, aka: Mike, 37, of Toronto, wanted for two counts of First-Degree Murder. The BOLO Program is an initiative leveraging social media, technology and innovative engagement to raise awareness about wanted people and encourage citizens to be on the lookout for Canada’s most wanted

On Saturday, September 18, 2021, just after 5:30 p.m., Quoc TRAN and Kristy NGUYEN were killed in a targeted attack that occurred at 111 Zenway Boulevard in the City of Vaughan.

Through the investigation and thanks to tips from the public, a vehicle operated by the suspects was located and the driver was identified as Recaldo LIBURD of Vaughan. On Wednesday, September 29, 2021, he was arrested and charged with two counts of Accessory After the Fact of Murder. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Superior Court of Justice in Newmarket on July 17, 2023.

The investigation led officers to a lengthy search at the Twin Creeks Landfill and Environmental Center in Watford Ontario, where Quoc TRAN’s remains were recovered. A landfill in the USA has also been searched however, Kristy NGUYEN has still not been found.

A Canada-wide arrest warrant remains in effect for NGUYEN. He is considered armed and dangerous. If seen, do not approach him, instead call 9-1-1 immediately. The suspect is encouraged to seek legal counsel and turn himself in. Investigators are reminding the public that anyone who is, or has, assisted the suspect may be subject to criminal charges.
