York Regional Police is actively hiring experienced officers in 2019 and 2020

Join a progressive police service where your experience means more than just days on a calendar. York Regional Police, and the community it serves, will benefit from your policing experience. You will benefit from all the outstanding qualities that made York Regional Police one of Greater Toronto's Top Employers in 2019

Basic requirements

  • Successful completion of recruit training at the Ontario Police College (experienced police officers policing outside of Ontario, or with the RCMP, are required to complete the OPC Exemption Exam, if eligible)
  • Successful completion of their probationary period with their current service, pursuant to Section 44.1 of the Police Services Act
  • Must be a member in good standing (i.e. no outstanding discipline matter or charges)
  • Valid Class 'G' Driver's Licence with full driving privileges
  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent
  • Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada
  • Current Standard or Emergency First Aid and CPR (Level C) Certificate
  • Current fitness test (PIN, PARE, POPAT, PREP) within the last 12 months

Training exemptions

Experienced police officers who have graduated from the Ontario Police College (OPC) are exempt from recruit training.

An experienced officer who has completed a Canadian police recruit training program comparable to the OPC program, and approved by the OPC, must write an Equivalency Exemption Exam. A candidate must have entered the selection process in order to write the exam and must obtain a passing grade to be considered at York Regional Police.

Graduates from the following OPC-approved programs are eligible to write the exemption exam:

  • Atlantic Police Academy
  • British Columbia Justice Institute
  • Calgary Police Service
  • Ecole Nationale de Police du Quebec
  • Edmonton Police Service
  • Royal Canadian Mounted Police Depot
  • Saskatchewan Police College
  • Winnipeg Police Service

All other experienced police officers must complete the OPC recruit program.
