Black History is My History A poster for an artistic project with a teenage female playing the steel pan drums

We want to know what moments in black history speak to you. Share your point of view and submit your ideas through any artistic platform and you could win a great prize and have your work featured at our Black History Month celebration on Saturday, February 3.

Contest Details

Participants can use any artistic platform they wish to share their ideas. Make a short video, write a song, create some art or share a story. All participants will be invited to our celebration and the top three winners will receive a gift card.

Submission will be accepted until Friday, January 26, 2018 at 4 p.m.


Award prizes will be given out to the top three performers:

  • First Place: $250 Best Buy gift card
  • Second Place: $150 Best Buy gift card
  • Third Place: $100 Best Buy gift card 

Contest Rules and Release Form

All contestants entering the Black History is My History contest should review the Contest Rules before creating and submitting their piece. Please fill out and return the Contest Release Form with your submission package.


Contestants must submit their work by email to, by standard mail or in person. Contestants submitting their hard copy entries should send their submission package to:
