The Community Safety Village of  York Region is excited to announce the launch of our Virtual Police Education Programs! We are pleased to be offering safety lessons to children from Kindergarten through Grade 5 in an educational and interactive way.

The programs offered at the Community Safety Village are offered at no cost. The programs will all be allocated 45-minute time slots.

Daily virtual session times are available at 9:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 1:30 p.m.

Session Descriptions


Community Helpers (30 min lesson): Kindergarten students will learn about emergency helpers in their community (i.e. police officers, paramedics, and fire fighters). Emphasis will be placed on understanding the nature of their roles and the tools that they use to do their jobs. Students will be educated on the importance of being prepared, making good choices, and staying calm during an emergency.

 Grade 1

Introduction to 9-1-1 (30 min lesson): Grade 1 students will learn to distinguish between an emergency and a non-emergency. Students will understand what services are available to assist in emergency situations and how to make a 9-1-1 call.

 Grade 2

Traffic and Pedestrian Safety (40 min lesson): Grade 2 students will learn about different traffic signs and the safety rules that keep road users safe. Students will understand the dangers of being distracted and will know how to safely cross the street. 

 Grade 3

Bicycle Safety (40 min lesson): Grade 3 students will learn about the equipment needed to ride a bicycle and how to properly fit a helmet. Students will understand different street signs and hand signals to keep themselves safe while bike riding.


COVID-19 Safety (40 min lesson): Grade 3 students will learn how to keep themselves and others safe and healthy during the pandemic. Students will understand the difference between factual and falsified information from media outlets. 

 Grade 4

Peer Pressure (40 min lesson): Grade 4 students will learn about positive and negative pressures that result from relationships with family and friends. Students will understand how to apply decision making models to deal with peer pressure.

 Grade 5

Internet Safety (40 min lesson): Grade 5 students will learn about safe online practices while using the Internet, social media, and web cameras. Students will understand how someone's online actions can affect others' feelings and emotional well-being.

All requests must be made online. Classes are booked on a first-come, first-served basis. Please book your class early to ensure availability. It is advised that one teacher makes the booking for their class and others. More dates will become available through the school year.

*IMPORTANT* Unless you receive a confirmation email, your booking has not been scheduled.

Once confirmed by the Safety Village Administrative Assistant, you will receive an email confirming your class booking.


1. On the main page, select the grade level you will be registering.

2. Select the date and time slot. If no time slot shows up for that day selected, then that time slot is fully booked or that particular class is not being offered.

3. Please input the required information in the text fields or drop down menus. All bolded fields are required to complete your booking.

4. Confirmation of your school's registration request will only be approved once reviewed by the Community Safety Village. Please note submitting a booking does not mean the time slot you booked is confirmed.

5. If approved, you will receive a confirmation booking via email as well as a reminder prior to your visit to the Community Safety Village.

6. Prior to your virtual lesson, you will be required to send our safety educators an invite to your virtual platform. If you are unable to, our team will send a zoom link for the lesson. Further details on this will be included in your confirmation email.
