We want you: To be York Regional Police Chief for a Day
If you are a Grade 5 student in York Region who is passionate about making positive change in your community, this is the contest for you!
All you have to do is write a 300 to 400 word essay on how you would make a difference in your community. The winner will get their very own custom Chief of Police uniform, tour our training facility and meet with members of our Air Support, Emergency Response and Canine Units.
To enter, submit your essay to ChiefForADay@yrp.ca by March 10. Ten students will be selected as Deputy Chiefs and have the opportunity to present their essay to a panel of judges. The winner will be named Police Chief for a Day.
The contest winner must be a Grade 5 student who attends school in York Region and must be able to attend all the following events:

March 21: Speech contest will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. at York Regional Police Headquarters, 47 Don Hillock Drive, Aurora. Ten students will be invited to attend, along with the parents/guardians, to present their essay in front of the judging panel. The panel will be comprised of six members of York Regional Police and the Police Appreciation Night Committee. Refreshments will be provided.
March 23: Student will be picked up and dropped off by a member of York Regional Police during the school day and taken to the Uniform Group in Scarborough for their Chief for a Day uniform fitting. Can be done in either in the morning or afternoon.
April 28: Student will be sworn in as Chief for a Day at York Regional Police Headquarters, 47 Don Hillock Drive, in Aurora. They will spend the day visiting various YRP units and locations and will enjoy an inside look at policing. Parents/guardians are welcome to join us on the day.
May 11: Chief for a Day will attend our Annual Police Appreciation Night at the Terrace Banquet Centre, 1680 Creditstone Road, in Vaughan, to present their winning essay in front of a crowd of 1,000 people. The reception begins at 5 p.m. and the event will conclude at approximately 9 p.m. Parents/guardians are invited to attend.
