2026 Race for Plunkett - Law Enforcement Torch Run

York Regional Police - Race for Plunkett is part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run which supports Special Olympic athletes. This is an annual event in memory of York Regional Police fallen officer, Detective Constable Rob Plunkett.

When: Wednesday, August 5th, 2026

Where: Riverwalk Commons – 200 Doug Duncan Drive, Newmarket

Options: 5km or 10km chip timed run, or choose a 5km walk with prizing for fastest 5K & 10K runners.

Cost: $45 

- includes official Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) race shirt, finishing medal and chip timing bib.

Please note there will be race day registrations allowed starting at 5:00 pm.

Registration opens at 5pm, opening ceremonies 6pm, run kick-off 6:30 pm

• At the opening ceremonies, the Special Olympic "Flame of Hope" is lit. The athletes will then guide all race participants to the starting line along Fairy Lake. The run will then take place along the scenic Tom Taylor trail of Fairy Lake.

This event is open to the community and attendees are welcome to stand anywhere along the route to show your support to the runners. There will be community booths and historical vehicles for viewing at Riverwalk Commons. 

All money raised from the event supports our local Special Olympic athletes.
