Headed to the beach to try to beat the heat?

Remember these six tips to ensure you and your loved ones have a safe and fun day:

  1. Respect signs and follow instructions from lifeguards

Swim in designated areas only and listen to any lifeguards on duty.

  2. Check the weather and water conditions

Pay attention to wind, waves and currents. Leave the water if a storm rolls in.

  3. Don't swim impaired

Alcohol and other substances can reduce coordination and affect your ability to swim.

  4. Watch children and vulnerable people closely

Ensure anyone you are supervising are wearing a personal floatation device if needed. Remember, even shallow water can be dangerous.

  5. Secure Valuables

Don't leave wallets, keys or phones unattended at the beach.

  6. Personal safety

Maintain your personal space and report any suspicious behaviour
