Air Support Unit

The York Regional Police helicopter, Air2, is a light single-engine Eurocopter EC120B helicopter with a seating capacity of four. It has a maximum cruising speed of 200 kilometres per hour and a range of 635 kilometres. Three Tactical Flight Officers, three alternate police officers, and two civilian pilots actively support frontline officers with criminal apprehensions, vehicle pursuits, searches for lost persons, traffic enforcement and, through its thermal imaging system, the identification of indoor marihuana grow operations. In 2009, Air2 responded to 1,580 calls for service.
