Investigators with the York Regional Police Major Collision Investigation Bureau have charged a 70-year-old man following a fatal collision in the Town of Richmond Hill.
On Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 3 p.m., officers responded to a collision involving a single vehicle which drove into a building in the area of Yonge Street and Nottingham Drive. It was learned the building was a child-care centre and the vehicle had driven through one of the front windows.
Multiple people were struck in various rooms within the building and sustained injuries ranging from minor to life-threatening. Numerous victims were transported to hospital.
The remaining victims were assessed by York Region Paramedic Services at the scene.
A 1.5-year-old boy was pronounced deceased in hospital and two other children remain in critical condition. All other victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
A 70-year-old man from Richmond Hill was arrested at the scene. He has been charged with Dangerous Operation Cause Death and two counts of Dangerous Operation Cause Bodily Harm.
Investigators continue to gather evidence and additional charges may be laid.
Investigators are also appealing to any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police. Anyone who may have dashcam footage of the area around the time of the collision is asked to please come forward.
