Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit have charged three males and recovered a firearm following a carjacking in the City of Richmond Hill.
On Thursday, June 12, 2025, just before midnight, officers responded to a report of a carjacking in a plaza parking lot in the area of Highway 7 East and Leslie Street. As the victim and two others were getting into their vehicle, two male suspects approached and demanded the keys, pointing a firearm at the driver. A struggle broke out, during which the firearm was discharged, striking one of the victims in the leg. The suspects fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle, accompanied by a third suspect driving a red Honda CRV.
The victim sustained minor injuries.
With assistance from the York Regional Police Air Support Unit, investigators quickly located both vehicles. All three suspects were taken into custody and the firearm was recovered. One suspect sustained an injury during the arrest. As a result, the Province’s Special Investigations Unit was notified and has invoked its mandate.
Investigators believe the suspects may be connected to additional robberies. As a result, an image of the adult suspect is being released and police are encouraging any other victims or witnesses to come forward.
