An officer with kids outside in the winter

There are some times of the year when extra caution should be used when kids are heading to and from school.

Winter

  • Due to high snowbanks and parked cars, drivers may not be able to easily spot kids. Remind them to use extra caution even if they are following all the right rules
  • Try to dress kids in bright colours as they are more easily seen, especially as mornings are darker through the winter months
  • Sidewalks, roadways and crosswalks may be slippery so tell kids to watch their step as they could fall
