Two Charged and Firearm Recovered after Attempted Carjacking in Markham

Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit have charged two suspects after an attempted carjacking in the City of Markham.

On Friday, January 2, 2026, at approximately 6:45 p.m., police responded to the report of an attempted carjacking in the area of Daffodil Avenue and Doncrest Drive. The victim pulled into a residential driveway when he was blocked in by a suspect vehicle and confronted by a suspect with a firearm. The victim managed to escape and contacted police.

The two suspects fled on foot and were taken into custody a short distance away. A loaded firearm was recovered.

Investigators are releasing images of the accused as they believe they may be responsible for additional offences and that there may be additional victims. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.

  • Jinquan SHEN, 33, of the City of Toronto

  • Possession of a Restricted Firearm
  • Disguise with Intent
  • Possession of a Firearm Obtained by Crime
  • Breach of Probation

 

  • Jett Cortez DE GUZMAN, 38, of the City of Toronto

  • Disguise with Intent
  • Possession of a Firearm Obtained by Crime
  • Breach of Probation
  • Operation of a Conveyance while Prohibited
  • Driving while Under Suspension

At the time of the offence, both suspects were on probation for unrelated offences.

Investigators are appearing for witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to come forward. Officers would also like to speak with anyone who may have video surveillance or dashcam footage in the area at the time of the incident.
