Investigators with the York Regional Police #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have charged an Innisfil man with multiple offences following an arson in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville.
On Sunday, May 3, 2026, at 3:18 p.m., police and Central York Fire Services attended the area of Warden Avenue and Aurora Road for reports of an industrial building on fire. Once on scene, a large amount of smoke was observed to be billowing out from the premise.
The premise sustained damage that is estimated to be up to $1 million.
Fortunately, there were no injuries.
A man was arrested at the scene and has since been charged with multiple offences.
Charged:
- Filipe DA SILVA, 59, of the Town of Innisfil
Charges:
- Arson
- Mischief – Damage to Property Exceeding $5,000
- Utter Threats – Property
- Utter Threats – Person x2.
Investigators believe this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety.
