Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit have identified the victim and continue to seek anyone with information after two people were shot in the Town of Newmarket.

On Friday, October 4, 2019, shortly after 9 p.m., York Regional Police were called to a residence on Colter Street, which is in the area of Yonge Street and Mulock Drive, for a report of a shooting. When officers arrived they found a 26-year-old male and a 23-year-old female in front of the residence suffering from gunshot wounds. The female was transported to hospital suffering from non-life-threatening injuries. The male was transported to hospital where sadly he died from his injuries. He has since been identified as 26-year-old DeShane TAYLOR from the City of Toronto.

Homicide investigators believe that a dark-coloured sedan pulled up in front of the house. Two male suspects exited the vehicle and shot the victims while they were in their car that was parked in the driveway. Following the shooting, the suspects drove away from the area.

At the time of the shooting there was a vehicle that drove past the scene on Colter Street. Investigators are appealing for the occupants of that vehicle to come forward and speak with investigators.

Suspect Descriptions:

  • Two males
  • One wearing a dark-coloured shirt

Suspect Vehicle:

  • Dark-coloured, four-door sedan

The community can expect an increased police presence in the area as investigators conduct canvasses for video surveillance. Any witnesses that may have seen or heard anything or any drivers who may have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the shooting are asked to please come forward.
