YORK REGIONAL POLICE CELEBRATING PRIDE WITH WE BELONG-PRIDE BREAKFAST AND 4th ANNUAL FLAG RAISING AT HEADQUARTERS

York Regional Police is proud to celebrate Pride month and the LGBTQ2+ community this June beginning with the first ever We Belong-Pride Breakfast in partnership with with the AIDS Committee of York Region (ACYR),  Pflag York Region and York Pride. The breakfast will be followed by the fourth annual raising of the rainbow Pride flag outside of York Regional Police Headquarters.

Members of the media and the community are invited to attend York Regional Police Headquarters, located at 47 Don Hillock Drive in Aurora, on Friday, June 1, 2017, for the events. The breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. and tickets can be purchased at: yrp.ca/WeBelong.

Following the breakfast, we will hear from a panel of speakers representing our community partners.  The flag raising will begin at 9 a.m.

York Regional Police is committed to supporting the LGBTQ2+ community, both internally among our members, as well as externally with our citizens.  The goal of the We Belong-Pride Breakfast is to  send a strong message to our community: We all belong in York Region.

Tickets purchased for this event will provide much-needed funding to our valued allies in an effort to reach vulnerable members of our community and to educate our citizens about the numerous resources available if they ever need support.

In addition to the flag raising at headquarters, York Regional Police will raising the Pride flag at all five districts throughout the region as well as the Community Safety Village and the York Regional Police training facility. Members of YRP will also be participating in municipal flag-raising ceremonies across the region next month.

In 2014, York Regional Police formed the LGBTQ Internal Support Network (ISN) which has grown to become the largest ISN within the service. The ISN is comprised of both sworn and civilian members of the LGBTQ community as well as friends, family members and allies.

York Regional Police is proud to enjoy strong community partnerships with organizations such as Pflag York Region, York Pride Fest, ACYR and many others in celebrating diversity and promoting inclusivity. Through these partnerships and collaborative efforts we combat hate in all its forms and further enhance the quality of life of all members of our diverse community.
