Chief Jim MacSween is proud to announce that York Regional Police, for the eleventh year in a row, has been named one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers for 2026, a designation that recognizes employers who lead their industries with outstanding employee benefits, forward-thinking workplace policies and supportive workplace cultures.
Employers are graded on eight criteria, which have remained consistent since the project's inception: Physical workplace; work atmosphere and social; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time-off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.
“York Regional Police is deeply honoured to be continually named one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers,” said Chief MacSween. “Much has changed in our organization over the last eleven years, but our commitment to the career development and well-being of our members remains a constant. We strive to ensure our members have everything they need to excel both professionally and personally from recruitment to retirement.”
York Regional Police was recognized for exceptional employee benefits which set our service apart from other GTA employers. These include:
- $12,000 a year for external mental health services, plus access to staff mental health clinicians
- Pregnancy and Parental Leave benefits, providing eligible members with a top-up to their EI benefits to 75% of their regular rate of pay for up to 51 weeks
- Up to seven weeks of vacation allowance
- Up to $7,500 total reimbursement for job-related tuition

Our Greater Toronto’s Top Employers feature story explores the journeys of two York Regional Police members, Staff Superintendent Jennifer McCue and Constable Tosca Lagman. Thanks to their own exemplary work as well as fulsome mentorship, training, professional development and a culture that puts equity and inclusion first, both members have flourished at our service.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Greater Toronto’s Top Employers competition, part of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers program. The initiative is an editorial project by Mediacorp Canada Inc., the nation’s largest publisher of employment periodicals.
