Appeal for Witnesses Following Bank Robbery in Richmond Hill

Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit are appealing for witnesses following a bank robbery in the City of Richmond Hill.

On Thursday, January 15, 2026, at approximately 2:20 p.m., police responded to a robbery at a bank in the area of Yonge Street and Elgin Mills Road. Upon arrival, officers learned that a male suspect entered the bank armed with a firearm and made threats before fleeing the scene with a quantity of currency.

The suspect is described as a male, 5’9” tall, medium build, wearing a black jacket, black pants, dark shoes, a black toque, black gloves, and a dinosaur scarf.

The bank is within a plaza with heavy foot traffic. Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen something suspicious, or to anyone with dashcam that was in the area between 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m., to come forward.
