Investigators with the York Regional Police #1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have charged a suspect in connection with overnight residential break-ins and thefts from vehicles in the Town of Newmarket.
Between February 15 and March 13, 2026, the suspect committed entries into unlocked houses and motor vehicles overnight in residential neighbourhoods around Prospect Street and Gorham Street. The suspect targeted wallets and fled when confronted by home owners.
Investigators have determined the suspect gained access to at least three residences and committed thefts from at least two motor vehicles.
The suspect was identified charged on March 13, 2026.
York Regional police is releasing a photo of the suspect as investigators believe there may be additional victims. Anyone with information is encouraged to come forward. The suspect was seen wearing a very distinctive red and black puffer-style jacket.

At the time of the incident, RICHARDS was on probation for unrelated offences.
