OPERATION BEEHAVE RUNNING FOR A THIRD YEAR TO COMBAT MISCHIEF AND UNRULY BEHAVIOUR IN VAUGHAN

Posted on Friday May 10, 2024

York Regional Police is increasing our presence and enforcement efforts to combat incidents of robbery, mischief and unruly behaviour with the third year of Operation BEEHAVE in the City of Vaughan.

York Regional Police first launched Operation BEEHAVE in July 2022 after a number of swarming-style robberies and other crimes occurred. Following a significant increase in police presence, incidents of robbery, disturbances and mischief declined.

Operation BEEHAVE will continue through this summer as needed. Officers deployed as part of the operation will investigate reports of disruptive or threatening behaviour in the Jane Street and Norwood Avenue area and in surrounding plazas and parking lots. Criminal charges will be laid when warranted.

Parents should be aware that many of these incidents have involved teenagers who are in the area without adult supervision. We urge parents to have conversations about the consequences of such criminal acts. Youths can face very serious charges, as well as being prohibited from returning to surrounding businesses.

York Regional Police continues to work with community members, business owners and Canada’s Wonderland security to ensure the area around Jane Street and Norwood Avenue remains safe for guests, staff, local businesses and customers.

Citizens and business owners are urged to report suspicious incidents and submit any video surveillance that captures such behaviour.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the York Regional Police #4 Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7445, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or leave an anonymous tip online at www.1800222tips.com.
