About #3 District
A brown building

Officers and civilians working in #3 District provide policing services to more than 45,000 residents in the communities of Keswick, Sutton and Pefferlaw, as well as several area hamlets.

The district is home to the Georgina Community Policing Centre, with a volunteer staff that provides policing information to the local community.

The Marine Unit and Underwater Recovery Team also work in #3 District.

Marine Unit

A boat moves past a crowded beach.Members of the York Regional Police Marine Unit respond to calls for service on Lake Simcoe and all of York Region's waterways. The unit carries out their duties using several vessels, including the 38-foot long Naawij, christened in 2013 and featuring state-of-the-art electronics and firefighting capabilities. The monitor pumps approximately 250 gallons-per-minute.

The 34-foot Waawaatesi, two-ridged hull inflatable Zodiac and two personal watercraft round out the summer fleet. Over the winter, the unit patrols and responds to emergencies on the ice using snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles and a custom-24-foot airboat named Dawaabin. Its flat, polymer bottom allows it to travel seamlessly across ice, snow and water.

Underwater Recovery Team

The team, made up of specially-trained members drawn from across the organization, has deployed in waters ranging from the depths of Lake Simcoe to the sewer systems of Markham.

Members of the team use highly-specialized dive equipment, including custom dry suits, dive helmets and positive-pressure full-face masks, allowing divers to enter even the most contaminated bodies of water.
