Investigators with the Special Victims Unit have charged a Markham sports coach with breaching his release conditions in connection with sexual assault incidents involving youths.
In June 2025, members of the Special Victims Unit charged Garth MORRIS, 59, of Markham, with Invitation to Sexual Touching Under 16, Sexual Interference, Sexual Assault and Sexual Exploitation. The charges relate to a victim who reported incidents that began in 2017, when they were under the age of 16, and continued until 2021. As a result of the initial appeal, more victims came forward with historical reports.
At the time of the offence, MORRIS was coaching youth basketball, tennis and volleyball in Markham.
MORRIS was released on conditions not to have contact with anyone under the age of 16 or attend schools, parks or community centres. Investigators have since learned that MORRIS continued coaching youth while subject to those conditions. Investigators believe that MORRIS has connections outside of Markham.
As a result of this new information, investigators are reissuing his photograph and renewing their appeal for anyone with additional information or similar experiences to come forward, regardless of when or where the incidents may have occurred.
