Man Charged in Unprovoked Attack in Richmond Hill

Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit have charged a 23-year-old man with Second Degree Murder following an unprovoked attack that resulted in the death of a man in the City of Richmond Hill.

On Wednesday, October 9, 2025, at 4;53 p.m., officers responded to an assault in progress on Lorraine Street, near Bernard Avenue. When they arrived, officers located a male with serious injuries. He was transported to hospital in a life-threatening condition where he was pronounced deceased.

The suspect was arrested without incident a short distance from the scene.

Through investigation, it was determined that the victim had been outside his residence when he was attacked without provocation. Investigators believe the victim and the suspect were not known to each other.

On Thursday, October 9, 2025, the Office of the Chief Coroner identified the victim as 54-year-old Amir SHAFEI, of Richmond Hill. The cause of death had been determined to be blunt force trauma.

  • Raymond KIM, 23, of Richmond Hill

Charges:

  • Second Degree Murder
  • Breach of Probation x2

At the time of this offence, KIM was bound by two separate probation orders for unrelated offences.

The investigation is ongoing. Investigators are appealing to any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police and to anyone who may have security video from the area, to please come forward.
