Fitness Requirements in Policing
Policing involves physically demanding duties that require strength, endurance, and the ability to perform under stress.
Operational duties may include emergency response, rapid movement, foot pursuits, stair climbing, lifting and carrying individuals, and physical control and restraint.
Physical readiness supports officer and public safety, operational effectiveness, injury prevention, and decision-making under pressure.
The PREP consists of two components: a Pursuit / Restraint Circuit, which evaluates functional strength, agility, and task performance through a timed job-simulation circuit completed under load; and a 20-Metre Shuttle Run, which measures cardiovascular endurance through a progressive running test with increasing intensity until completion or voluntary exhaustion.
