Are you ready to apply?
Make sure you meet the requirements, understand the process and take the next step toward your career with York Regional Police.
Here's what happens next: The selection process
York Regional Police uses a structured, values-based selection process to assess whether you’re a good fit for the role.
Application review
After you submit your application, we review it in detail. If you move forward, we assign your file to a recruiter, who will be your main contact throughout the process.
Pre-background questionnaire (PBQ)
If you advance, a recruiter will contact you to complete the PBQ. The questionnaire asks about your character, work and school habits, driving and criminal record, drug use, social media activity and credit history.
Modified PIN test
The modified PIN test includes pushups, a sit-and-reach flexibility test, core endurance and grip strength.
Candidates also complete the shuttle run to measure aerobic fitness. They must reach at least Level 5.5 to move to the next step in the process.
Values-based hiring interview
If you’re successful, you will take part in a blended interview to assess your knowledge of YRP and York Region, along with key competencies through behavioural, situational, biographical and knowledge-based questions.
Psychological assessment
After a successful interview, you may be invited to complete a psychological assessment to help assess your suitability for the role.
Police background investigation
We verify the information you provided and complete security and reference checks. Background officers also visit your home and workplace.
Conditional offer
If you are approved by the Chief of Police and rank among the most competitive candidates, you may receive a conditional offer of employment.
