Fingerprint and photo removal allows individuals to request the removal of fingerprints and photographs taken by police where charges did not result in a conviction.

This process does not remove the occurrence from York Regional Police records. Investigative files are retained in accordance with records retention requirements.

Who is this for?

This service is intended for individuals who were fingerprinted by police and did not receive a criminal conviction. 

Please note there is a 30 day waiting period from the date of disposition (completed in court) before you can submit an application.  The waiting period is to ensure all documents are processed and accessible.  Applications submitted prior to the 30 day waiting period will not be held and you must reapply.

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

• Be at least 18 years of age
• Have no criminal convictions with any police agency
• Have no outstanding charges before the courts
• Not be the subject of a peace bond
• Not apply within one year of an absolute discharge
• Not apply within three years of a conditional discharge
• Not apply within one year of a stay of proceedings (other than a judicial stay)
