About YIPI

The Youth in Policing Initiative (YIPI) provides York Region youth with a unique summer employment experience designed to build confidence, strengthen workplace skills and create meaningful connections within the community.

Delivered in partnership with the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, this paid program gives participants the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a safe and supportive environment while exploring careers in policing and public service.

YIPI is intended for youth with leadership potential who may face barriers to success and would benefit from mentorship, professional development and positive community engagement.

To apply for the Youth in Policing Initiative, you must:

Be the right age

Must be between 15 and 18 years old at the time of application.

Live in York Region

Applicants must currently live in York Region.

Attend school and be eligible to work

Must be legally eligible to work in Canada and returning to school full time in September 2026.

Be available

Participants must be available to work every scheduled day of the program.

Pass screening

Successfully complete the recruitment and background clearance process with no unresolved criminal convictions or pending charges.

Have transportation

Responsible for arranging transportation to and from the York Regional Police Community Safety Village each day.

Important information

Family members of active and retired personnel from any Canadian police service are not eligible to participate in the program.
