Three Charged in Planned Kidnapping

Investigators with York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit have charged three suspects in connection with a conspiracy to commit a kidnapping in the City of Markham. 

On Thursday, May 21, 2026, investigators learned of a suspicious incident in the area of Masseyfield Gate and Steeles Avenue. Officers determined a suspect had affixed a tracking device to a vehicle parked in a plaza and that an individual associated to the vehicle was believed to have been targeted for a kidnapping.

Investigators identified a suspect vehicle and on May 22, 2026, observed the same vehicle attended the plaza. Investigators contained the suspect vehicle and following a short foot pursuit, two suspects were taken into custody. Officers recovered a quantity of a controlled substance, believed to be fentanyl, as well as Canadian currency.

Through continued investigation, a third suspect was identified and on May 27, 2026, he was taken into custody.
