Warrant Issued for Fraudster Targeting Spanish Speakers
Investigators with the York Regional Police Financial and Organized Crimes Unit are seeking public assistance to locate a 49-year-old Richmond Hill man wanted in connection with frauds targeting Spanish-speaking car buyers.
Between January and May 2026, York Regional Police investigated a suspect who posed as a licensed vehicle salesperson and posted advertisements on social media aimed at Spanish-speaking new Canadians.
The suspect met victims in person and showed them vehicles that were either in the possession of legitimate dealerships or advertised online. He then obtained their financial information and accepted cash down payments before ceasing communication with the victims.
Investigators believe the accused used industry contacts to help facilitate the frauds, including borrowing office space to meet with victims.
Duglas RODRIGUEZ, 49, of Richmond Hill, is wanted for Fraud Under $5,000, False Pretence, Theft Under $5,000 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. Police have been unable to locate him and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. Investigators are releasing his image and appealing to the public for information about his whereabouts.
The accused is encouraged to seek legal advice and turn himself in. Investigators are also reminding the public that anyone who assists him may be subject to criminal charges.
