A York Regional Police 9-1-1 communicator, Shelayne, is retiring after a distinguished career supporting frontline officers and public safety.

In 2019, she played an integral role in ensuring officer safety during a high-risk incident in Richmond Hill involving a dangerous suspect.

What began as a traffic stop escalated into a short pursuit and ultimately a prolonged standoff at a residence.

“It was a very dynamic call. It was the call of my career,” Shelayne said. “Everyone pulled together. I had a great team with me.”

In recognition of her professionalism and performance, Shelayne was honoured with a Dispatcher of the Year Award.

York Regional Police thanks Shelayne for her dedication and contributions to keeping the community and officers safe.

Happy retirement, Shelayne.
