York Region Shield
Community safety is a shared responsibility
York Region Shield is a program that promotes information sharing between executive-level public and private security professionals and York Regional Police, which forms part of a Global Shield Network of nearly 50 law enforcement and intelligence agencies around the world.
Participants in York Region Shield share emerging and evolving trends and security concerns, directly affecting emergency preparedness in York Region. York Region Shield partners will receive regular updates related to emergency preparedness and counterterrorism, including information on domestic and international trends, alerts on cybersecurity threats and active shooter incidents as well as relevant major event briefs to the Region.
Shield participants also receive information on relevant training opportunities, York Region Shield meetings and conferences.
What is the Global Shield Network?
The Global Shield Network is an international collaboration between law enforcement agencies and both public and private-sector security professionals. This program aims to keep partners informed of developing local and global upcoming events, trends, and any threats based on open-source, vetted information which may have direct impact on their interests, mandates and/or geographical locations.
Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the New York Police Department created Global Shield Network to establish and foster private and public partnerships in the security and intelligence sector.
