Male Posing as Rideshare Driver Charged with Kidnapping and Sexual Assault in Vaughan

Members of the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit have charged a man following an investigation into the kidnapping and sexual assault of a woman in the City of Vaughan.

On September 21, 2025, shortly after 3 a.m., a woman was waiting for a ride in the area of Major Mackenzie Drive West and Jane Street. A man approached and engaged her in conversation, claiming to be a rideshare driver, and offered to drive her home. After they entered his vehicle, he drove to a parking lot on Major Mackenzie Drive West where he stopped and sexually assaulted her. The man then threatened her, forced her out of the vehicle and drove away.

The victim contacted police. Responding officers assisted her and searched the area. The suspect vehicle was located in the area and a 30-year-old man from the City of Richmond Hill was arrested without incident and charged.

Investigators are releasing a photo of the accused as they believe there are other victims who have not come forward.

  • Kidnapping
  • Sexual Assault
  • Uttering Threats

ZOLMAY was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in the Town of Newmarket, Ontario, on October 3, 2025.

Investigators are appealing to any other victims who have not yet come forward to contact them as soon as possible.

A sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature. York Regional Police encourages victims to report incidents of sexual assault, including historical offences. There is no statute of limitations for sexual offences and offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence.
