Update – Markham Man Charged in 2025 Indecent Act Investigations

Investigators with the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit have charged a Markham man with sexual offences following a December 2025 investigation.

On December 10, 2025, a victim was at a business in the area of Red Maple Road and High Tech Road, in the City of Richmond Hill. A male suspect approached the victim, committed an indecent act and touched the victim for a sexual purpose before fleeing.

On December 21, 2025, a second victim was at a business in the area of Carrville Road and Yonge Street, in Richmond Hill. A male suspect approached the victim, exposed himself and committed an indecent act before fleeing.

In both incidents, no physical injuries were reported.

Following a four-month investigation, it was determined the incidents involved the same male suspect. He was identified and charged on April 15, 2026.

Investigators are releasing his photo as they believe there may be additional victims.

  • Carl FERNANDES, 55, of the City of Markham

Charges:

  • Sexual Assault
  • Sexual Interference
  • Expose Genitals to a Person Under 16 Years of Age for a Sexual Purpose x2
  • Commit an Indecent Act in a Public Place x2

A sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature. York Regional Police would like to encourage anyone who feels they may have been a victim of a sexual assault to come forward and report the incident to police. There is no statute of limitations for sexual offences and offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence.
