The Cold Cases of York Region: Benita Tarantino

A woman with brown hair and red lipstickToday, Teston Road in Vaughan is a well-travelled, four-lane road, bustling with thousands of commuters. But 30 years ago, it was just a long stretch of dirt road bisecting the rural landscape.

It was a lonely final resting place for Benita Tarantino, 17, whose body was discovered on October 28, 1985. She was identified three days later.

When she was killed, Benita was working as a prostitute in the Cabbagetown neighbourhood of Toronto. She was last seen in the early morning hours of September 28, 1985 near the intersection of Pembroke and Gerrard Streets, where she worked.

Investigators believe she got into a vehicle which drove away. Sadly, she never returned and her murder is yet to be solved.
