Appeal for Witnesses Following Multiple Overnight Arsons in Markham

Investigators with the York Regional Police #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are appealing for witnesses following three overnight arsons in the City of Markham.
On Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 4:30 a.m., police attended a business in the area of Highway 7 East and Ninth Line for reports of a fire. Once on scene, Markham Fire and Emergency Services had already extinguished a small fire which resulted in minimal damage.
Shortly after, police were dispatched to another business in the area of Markham Road and Castlemore Avenue for reports of a fire. When officers arrived, Markham Fire and Emergency Services had already extinguished a small fire which also resulted in minimal damage.
There was no suspect description obtained in either incident.
At 5:51 a.m., police attended a business in the area of Markham Road and 16th Avenue for a report of a third fire. Markham Fire and Emergency Services quickly extinguished the fire which resulted in minimal damage.
In this incident, two suspects were observed exiting a black Dodge Durango. The suspects then used an accelerant to ignite a fire at the business and fled. The vehicle was last seen traveling westbound on 16th Avenue at a high rate of speed.
In all three incidents, an accelerant was used to ignite the fire.
All businesses were unoccupied and there were no reported injuries.
It is unknown at this time if all three arsons are associated to one another.
