Investigators with the York Regional Police #3 District Criminal Investigation Bureau (3CIB) have seized a firearm and a quantity of controlled substances in connection with a drug trafficking investigation dubbed Project Winnie.

In April, 2026, 3CIB began an investigation into a suspect involved in the trafficking of controlled substances in the Town of Georgina and the surrounding areas. Through the ongoing investigation officers identified two residences associated to the suspect, one in Georgina and one in the City of Barrie.

On June 16, 2026, the suspect was taken into custody. Search warrants were executed at the residences in Georgina and Barrie and on two vehicles associated to the suspect. Officers recovered a quantity of substances believed to be cocaine, a quantity of Canadian currency and a loaded firearm.

  • Possession of a Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Possession of a Restricted Firearm with Readily Accessible Ammunition
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device
  • Careless Storage of a Firearm
  • Possession of Proceeds of Crime
  • Failure to Comply with Probation

UTHAYAKUMAR was on probation and subject to a weapons prohibition order at the time of the offence.
