Investigators with the York Regional Police #1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have charged a man in connection with a series of incidents in the Town of Newmarket.

On June 10, 2026, a man attended a residence in the area of Prospect Street and Gorham Street, where he left a note containing explicit messaging.

On September 29, 2026, a man attended a residence in the area of Eagle Street West and Davis Drive West and left a note containing explicit messaging in the victim’s mailbox.

On September 30, 2026, police received a report of a man prowling near a hotel in the area of Yonge Street and Davis Drive while using a cellphone flashlight. Officers responded and arrested the suspect.

Upon further investigation, investigators determined the suspect was also responsible for the earlier incidents.

John Stuart WEIR, 40, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with:

  • Trespassing At Night
  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Criminal Harassment
  • Indecent Communications
