Suspect Charged, Second Suspect Wanted Following Kidnapping Investigation
Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit have charged one suspect and are seeking a second suspect following the kidnapping of a Richmond Hill man, who has since been located safely.
On July 7, 2026, the victim was reported missing from his business in the area of Denison Street and Woodbine Avenue, in the City of Markham. Based on information gathered at the scene, officers determined that the victim had been kidnapped and the Homicide Unit was engaged.
On July 9, 2026, investigators safely located the victim. One male suspect has since been charged.
Investigators are seeking a second suspect in relation to the investigation. Jianwei “John” FAN, 44, of Toronto, is wanted for Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence. Investigators have been unable to locate him and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Investigators are releasing his image and are appealing to the public for any information on his whereabouts.
FAN is encouraged to seek legal advice and turn himself in. Investigators are reminding the public that anyone providing assistance to him may be subject to criminal charges.
