Two Charged Following Online Illicit Cannabis Distribution
The York Regional Police Guns, Gangs and Drug Enforcement Unit has charged two suspects following an investigation into an illicit online cannabis distribution network operating within York Region.
On May 4, 2026, investigators received information that youths had accessed an online cannabis distribution website and that at least two had become ill after consuming them. Investigators reviewed the website and observed cannabis products being advertised in packaging in contravention of the Cannabis Act.
The investigation determined that the website was operating without a licence authorizing the business to sell cannabis, that the cannabis was unregulated, and that the operator of the website was not confirming the identity or age of customers purchasing the products.
Investigators are reminding parents that youth are increasingly accessing cannabis products through online sources. These products may be unregulated, improperly packaged and pose serious health risks. Parents are encouraged to speak with their children about the dangers of purchasing unregulated cannabis online.
On May 6, 2026, two suspects were charged and search warrants were executed at a residence in the City of Vaughan, a residence in the City of Brampton and on a vehicle used to distribute cannabis products. Officers seized a quantity of illicit cannabis products and proceeds of crime.
