The Vulnerable Person Registry helps police respond faster when someone goes missing or needs urgent help.
By sharing important details in advance, you can help police can better identify, locate and assist vulnerable people in York Region.

Who can register?
A vulnerable person may include someone with a cognitive, developmental or physical disability, or a medical condition that affects their behaviour, mobility or communication.
You can register if the person:
- Lives, works, goes to school or regularly visits York Region
- Has a condition that may put them at risk and require police help
- Has a caregiver, parent or legal guardian complete and update the registration (if needed)
- Can provide proof of identity and confirm the information is accurate
How to register
Confirm eligibility
Confirm that the person resides, attends school, works or otherwise regularly visits York Region and meets the registry requirements.
Prepare the required information
Be ready to provide the person’s name, date of birth, physical descriptors, medical or health conditions, contact information, special needs, methods of approach, objects of attraction and an up-to-date photograph in JPEG format.
Submit the application online
Complete the online application through the York Regional Police registry.
Keep the profile up to date
Profiles for registrants under 16 must be renewed every year on the registrant’s birthdate. Profiles for registrants over 16 must be renewed every two years on the registrant’s birthdate. Primary contacts receive an email reminder when an update is required.

What information is required?
During registration, applicants are asked to provide identifying, medical and contact information to support emergency response. This includes physical descriptors, medical or health conditions, special needs, methods of approach, objects of attraction and an up-to-date photograph.
How is the information used?
If a vulnerable person requires police assistance, responding officers may access the information provided through the registry. The information is used to support a rapid response, identify safety issues, assist with de-escalation, provide emergency contact information and support coordination with medical or emergency responders where needed.
Vulnerable Person Identity Card
The Vulnerable Person Identity Card helps police quickly identify and assist individuals who may have communication or cognitive challenges. It includes key information such as emergency contacts and medical details and is intended to complement the Vulnerable Person Registry.
