Registering your bike helps police identify and return it if it is lost or stolen. The program also supports efforts to prevent bike theft in the community.
Online Bike Registration is a program created by York Regional Police to safeguard bicycles owned by residents. Once your registration is submitted, a confirmation number will be emailed to you for your records.

Where to find the serial number
Most bicycles have a serial number stamped into the frame by the manufacturer, typically on the underside of the bottom bracket.
If your bike does not have a serial number, engrave an identifying number on the frame, such as your driver’s licence number. You may also choose to mark the same number on wheels and other components.
Protect your bike
- Always lock your bike when unattended
- Lock the frame and both wheels to a secure object
- Remove loose accessories when not in use
- Record your serial number and keep it for your records
- Take a photo of your bike and keep receipts
