Q1 2026 brings drop in several crime categories
This info, accessed through the York Regional Police Community Safety Data Portal, reflects crime statistics from January 1 2026 through March 31, 2026.
Overall, the numbers are moving in the right direction, with crime trending down compared to the same time last year.
York Regional Police has seen a nine per cent decrease in assaults, with 1,378 incidents reported in the first three months of 2026, down from 1,514 during the first quarter of 2025.
Residential break-and-enters have also declined significantly, dropping 22 per cent, from 374 incidents in early 2025 to 290 in the first quarter of this year.
Commercial break-and-enters saw an even larger decrease, down 42 per cent, with 139 incidents from the beginning of January to the end of March, compared to 240 the same time last year.
Robberies are down as well, with 80 reported in the first quarter, compared to 99 during the same period in 2025.
One of the most notable improvements is in motor vehicle theft. In the first quarter of 2026, a total of 367 incidents were reported, marking a 33 per cent decrease from the 550 reported during the same time last year.
These encouraging trends reflect the dedicated work of our officers, alongside the efforts of community members who are taking proactive steps to prevent crime and protect themselves and their loved ones.
